Mr. J. B. McCarthy May 31, 1968 Vice President - Manufacture and Leaf W. B. Wartman, Jr., Asat. Manager - New Products Division Research and Development PALL MALL Filter 8B's We are attaching a@ummgyy_XepRZ.t, of the physical properties and smoke analysis of PALL MALL Filter 88's manufactured at Reidsville Branch during the initial week's production of this new brand. Physical properties of these cigarettes are in agreement with product specifications. The filter used in this new brand is only 15 mm in length and the filter pressure drop is fairly low; the cigarette pressure drop is slightly less than PALL MALL Filter. The blend used in this cigarette is the same as PALL MALL Filter and tobacco analysis is not included. Smoke analysis of the PALL MALL Filter 88's shows the levels of "tar" and nicotine to be within the range for 85 mm filter cigarettes. When these cigarettes are smoked to a 23 mm butt (FTC smoking procedure), the "tar" and nicotine levels are increased to 24 and 1.6, respectively, on a milligram per cigarette basis and to 2.3 and 0.15, on a milligram per puff basis. The PALL MALL Filter 88's were evaluated by members of our smoke panel and were judged to be good smokes, with a taste similar to PALL MALL Filter. BMC:jdf Attachment cc: Mr. R. B.
